Meetings: 7:00 to 8:30pm, usually the first Tuesday of the month from September through June.
Always informative and a chance to socialize with fellow artists, the meetings begin with MAA business, announcements of interest and a welcome to new members. After a brief break for refreshments, our featured guest speaker, chosen from various disciplines in the art world, will give a presentation.
At one of the meetings during the year, we arrange for a critique of members’ artwork by a local prominent artist. Meetings in the winter months may be held via Zoom. Get-togethers in June and December may be social activities. There are no meetings during July and August.

Let’s wrap up the year with some Holiday Cheer!
Join us for our MAA Holiday Celebration – a chance to relax, share stories and a few laughs with your artist friends. We’ll have some festive snacks, refreshments and plenty of holiday spirit. Feel free to wear something red or your favorite Christmas outfit.
We invite you to get creative again this year bring along a home-made greeting card, or a tree ornament (if you prefer something different (see details below)
Santa will be in the house with some surprises!

How the Card / Tree Ornament Exchange Will Work:
- Attending MAA members are encouraged to create one original (hand-made) holiday greeting card (watercolor, collage, oil, pastel, mixed media, anything goes) or hand-made decorated treeornament (please include a string).
- Please put in envelope
- Wrap ornament if fragile
- Signing your cards or ornament with a message is optional.
- Upon arrival at the church, your contribution will be put in a box and then randomly distributed. If unsigned, you are encouraged to seek out its creator!
We kindly encourage everyone to participate. It’s fun!

7:30 pm: Keynote Speaker featuring Deirdre Hierlihy
FLOATSAM AND JETSAM: A Canada-Ireland Artists Collaboration
Deidre Hierlihy, a printmaker, will talk with us about an exciting collaboration between members of the Ottawa Gatineau Printmakers Connective (OGPC) and the Manorhamilton print studio in County Leitrim, Ireland. The friendship between these two groups of printmakers began in 2019 when she was a resident artist in Ireland. Deidre will tell you all about it, answer questions and discuss the possibility of a printmaking workshop.
Deidre graduated from Queen’s University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Fine Art. She worked in research and printmaking for twelve months at Graff, Centre de Conception Graphique in Montreal. She obtained her Bachelor of Education at Queen’s University and teaches mixed media to children and printmaking and drawing to adults at the Ottawa School of Art.
Deidre lived and worked in Japan for eighteen months in 1987/88, teaching English as a Second Language and studying Japanese wood-cut printing. In 2019, she lived in County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland as an artist in residence.
She has had many solo shows and has exhibited in Ottawa, Montreal, Japan and Northern Ireland. Deidre is a member of the Ottawa Gatineau Printmakers Connective, Graphein, and the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists’ Guild – Ottawa Valley Chapter.

8:15 pm: Refreshments /Christmas Card Exchange: We are looking to foster the MAA holiday spirit by hosting a Christmas/Holiday Card Exchange during the social event which will follow the Members’ meeting on December 3. Refreshments will be served!
How the Card Exchange Will Work: Attending members are encouraged to bring one original (hand-made) holiday card (watercolor, collage, oil, pastel, mixed media, anything goes). Each card to be signed by the artist (generic message optional), put in an envelope that measures approximately 5X7 or 4X6 or thereabouts. Upon arrival at the church, each card will be put in a raffle box and then drawn and distributed to attendees – each card will be individually opened by the recipient and shown to group.
We kindly encourage everyone to participate, so everybody can leave with an original piece of art.
