Céleste Charland

Céleste is a full-time artist painting still life and landscapes in oils and acrylics.  She currently resides in Westboro, Ottawa.

Born in Northern Quebec and raised in North Bay (Ontario) Céleste had a passion for drawing and painting from a very young age.  She has always been fascinated by the interplay between light and shadow and she enjoys exploring the magic of colour. The beauty of everyday life inspires her work.  She loves to offer a subtle surreal qualityto what we take for granted, helping the viewer appreciate the beauty in the ordinary.

Céleste has studied art part-time at the Ottawa School of Art and Atelier de Brésoles (Montréal). She has also been a mentored by amazing teachers including, Andrew Sookrah, Gordon Harrison, Donata Szafian and Brian Buckrell.

I love everything about the creative process and am always in awe of the beauty around me.  I describe my work as ‘the soothing and calming betwixt and between’: it is neither realistic nor purely abstract. I love experimenting with colour, adding a subtle surreal quality to my work.  I use mostly oil and acrylic, often playing with both.  Painting is the closest I ever get to fully expressing my gratitude for my life and the world around me.’
